Joint Meeting of Korean and Japanese Geological Societies - Muroto Geopark

1st circular

(1) Outline and Objectives of the joint meeting

Joint meeting of Korean and Japanese Geological Societies - Muroto Geopark aims to exchange new developments in geological researches of Korea and Japan. Especially exchanging students studying geology in both countries is main focus.

The meeting consists of 4 sessions (1 Keynote session, 2 Union session, 3 geological processes along subduction, and 4 Carbon capture and storage and Geological Disposal of Radioactive Waste) and one day field trip.

We will have about 14 oral presentation for 4 sessions including about 8 invited talks as well as more than 20 poster presentation by young scientists and students.

The field trip of Muroto Geopark is an important event in this meeting, including spectacular deformation of Cenozoic strata in Shimanto accretionary complex, intrusive aspects of Miocene layered gabbroic complex, coastal terrace topography formed by sea-level changes and uplift during Holocene earthquakes at Nankai Trough.

(2) Schedule

* June 11 (Fri) Deadline for application form and abstract submission

* June 18 (Fri) Distribution of 2nd circular (including details of program, travel arrangements, etc.)

* August 23 (Mon)-25 (Wed) Meeting

August 23: Ice breaker

Registration at Kochi Ryoma Airport from 1 to 3 PM.

We will leave for Muroto from the Airport by buses at 3 PM

August 24: Plenary sessions

Morning: 1 Keynote session and 2 Union session

Noon: Poster session 1

Afternoon: 3 Geological processes along subduction zone and 4 Carbon capture and storage, and Geological disposal of radioactive waste

Evening: Poster session 2

August 25: Field trip in Muroto Geopark

The full field trip will take a day. It will finish around 3 PM and we will be back to Kochi Ryoma airport around 6 PM. Optional trip to the Cretaceous Melange unit and Kochi Core center tour (a part of Muroto geopark) is available.

Important notice: Korean participants need to stay another night if you attend the full field trip (August 25). We will reserve a hotel close to Kochi Ryoma airport for the stay if you request. Please fill up the application form for this issue.

(3) Venues and Access

You need to arrive Kochi Ryoma Airport until 3 PM August 23rd.

From Korea, there are two connections for that on August 23rd.

* Incheon International Airport-Fukuoka 9:40-11:10; Fukuoka-Kochi 13:40-14:25

* Gimpo International Airport-Haneda 8:40-10:40; Haneda-Kochi 12:15-14-45

We will move to Muroto by bus from Kochi Ryoma Airport. We will stay at National MUROTO Youth Outdoor Learning Center. The meeting will be held in the same place.

(4) Registration

All participants (including invited speakers and members of the Organizing Committee) must submit the Application Form to kjmuroto@gmail.com until June 11. Applicants will be notified shortly after this date if they can be accepted. No fee will be charged to any participants for registration.

(5) Fee for participants

Accommodation fee: 4,500 Yen (including 2-night stay and meals). Students are also charged.

Welcome reception party fee: 3,000 Yen (Students are not charged. )

(6) Support for students

Korean students: 50,000 Yen. (Total number of support is up to 20 person. First come, first serve. I am sorry for announcing so late. Korean student-participants are rushing now. Thank you very much!)

(Support will be pay afterward or at the meeting. You need to pay the cost in advance.)

(7) Call for oral and poster presentations

Utilize this opportunity to present your paper to many researchers involved in the related fields. Presenters need to submit an abstract in English until June 11. Abstract form is available in the Website.
